Bitumen roofing

Bitumen is the standard on Dutch flat roofs for good reason: it is strong, easy to repair, and lasts for decades in two layers. Many people know it as roofing felt, and anyone who has ever laid roofing felt on a shed knows how differently it works when it is expertly torched rather than nailed.

We install BMI Icopal bitumen with a slate chippings top layer that protects the underlying layers from sunlight. Should a seam crack years later, it can be repaired locally without replacing the entire roof. This makes bitumen the cost-effective choice in the long term as well.

Replace or overlay a flat roof?

Not every flat roof needs to be completely stripped. If the existing roofing is dry and level, a new layer can often be applied over it: faster, more cost-effective, and just as watertight. However, if there is moisture in the old layers or the substrate is damaged, complete replacement is the only right choice.

We determine the situation specific to your roof during the free inspection, making an incision in the old covering where necessary. You will receive visual evidence and a quote for the most suitable approach, not the most expensive option.

How much does new roofing for a flat roof cost?

The costs depend on the surface area, whether the old covering needs to be removed, and the number of penetrations and edges that need to be finished. Overlaying a garage roof requires a different budget than completely renewing a residential roof with insulation.
