Why have your lead and zinc work done by Koning Dakwerk?

Virtually every persistent leak we encounter is located at a transition: where the dormer meets the roof surface, where the chimney pierces the tiles, or where the flat roof meets the wall. It is precisely there that lead and zinc do their job, and precisely there that rushed work takes its toll.

We install lead to the correct thickness, hammer it into precise shape, and grind it into the joint instead of sealing it with sealant. We solder zinc work; tape and sealant are not a solution for us, but at best a stopgap measure. You will see the result in the photo report and feel it in the 10-year written guarantee.

What are the benefits of good lead and zinc work?

Invisible when all is well, indispensable when it rains.

Waterproof for decades

Properly installed lead lasts fifty years or longer, longer than most roofing materials.

End to recurring leakage

Many “undetectable” leaks are lead problems. A single proper repair solves them permanently.

Protection of the masonry

Lead flashing keeps the wall above the roof connection dry and prevents frost damage.

Also available without lead

Modern lead substitutes are lighter, resistant to theft, and perform equally well in many places.

Taken along with other roofing work

During a renovation or repair, we include the lead and zinc work immediately. One scaffold, everything in order.

We work with premium brands

For long-lasting results, we work exclusively with proven quality brands, including Monier, Wienerberger, and Bitasco.

Lead substitute: modern alternative

Lead substitutes are self-adhesive or formable sheets that are replacing traditional lead on more and more roofs. They are lighter, easier to install cold, and unattractive to copper thieves, which is a real selling point for accessible extensions and dormers.

However, lead cannot be replaced everywhere: for monumental details or heavy loads, the original remains the standard. We advise on the sensible approach for each detail and process both materials according to the manufacturer's guidelines so that the warranty remains fully valid.

Zinc roofing and zinc work

Zinc is found in more places than you think: the gutter, the valley gutter between two roof planes, capping on walls, and sometimes a complete zinc roof on a bay window or dormer. You can recognize worn zinc by white efflorescence, thin spots, and seams coming loose.

We replace zinc work with the correct thickness and solder the seams so that the work functions as a single unit. We construct a completely new zinc bay window or dormer roof, standing seamed and with a sleek, visible finish.

How much does it cost to replace lead or zinc work?

The costs depend on the number of linear meters, the level of detail, and accessibility: a lead flashing above an extension is a different job than the lead around a chimney at the ridge. The choice between lead and a lead substitute also plays a role.

After the free inspection, you will receive a fixed price in writing per detail. That is the amount you pay.
